Tour Description:
In the Middle Ages, there existed a road connecting the two capitals of Al-Andalus, the most advanced Western civilization. Live the history in the land of La Subbética which reflects this heritage with its castles and lookout towers. Enjoy the local gastronomy, and to finish, continue until reaching the unique city of Cordoba.
Itinerary: Day 1

Perched on an emerging rock above the great reservoir known as the Lake of Andalusia, Iznájar resembles an island emerging from the blue water, surrounded by olive groves and almond trees on either side. Breathtaking views, steep narrow streets with a medieval atmosphere and a Moorish castle are sights that you should not miss. Not far away from Iznájar, you’ll come across the town of Rute, known for its Christmas pastries and for its aniseed. A mere 35km away you’ll find Priego de Córdoba. With undeniable Moorish roots, the town rises up from the gates to the Sierras Subbéticas National Park, and is known as the “capital of Cordoban Baroque”. The historic part of Priego de Córdoba is defended by its castle and is located at the town’s highest point. Nearby lies the Barrio de la Villa, a beautiful area characterized by white cobbled streets, tranquil plazas, whitewashed facades covered with flower pots and narrow side streets destined to arouse your curiosity.

YOUR HOTEL: Beautiful Andalucian style hotel with excellent quality just next to Priego.
Itinerary: Day 2

In the morning you’ll visit a local olive oil producer. During the visit you’ll learn about the special features of the local olive oil and taste different types of oil and other products guided by a professional. What a great opportunity to ask anything you have in mind concerning the star product of the area! Make your way to the nearby village of Zuheros. It possesses a genuine architectural charm, consisting of popular white houses, ochre roof tiles and steep streets. The striking Moorish castle is carved out of the rock and occupies a prominent position overlooking the village below.

YOUR HOTEL: Nice rural hotel in a typical building in the village of Zuheros.
Itinerary: Day 3

Head to the nearby village of Lucena. You will be welcomed to a guided visit to a local bodega. You’ll learn about the local wine with the Denomination of Origin Montilla-Moriles, its production process and the different types of wine. And of course you’ll get to taste some! Your next destination is the city of Córdoba. The historic part of the city still preserves traces of the splendid Caliphate of Córdoba. To walk amongst the narrow old streets, attractive plazas and whitewashed patios is to take a step closer to these historic times. Visit the magnificent Mosque and the surrounding Jewish quarter full of flowers! Get some tapas in the many squares of the city and immerse yourself in the lively nightlife.

YOUR HOTEL: Small and charming, and located right in the heart of the city, its colourful, cheerful style makes you feel at home from the very first instant.
Itinerary: Day 4

There is still much to discover in Córdoba: the bull fighting museum, the fascinating Alcázar featuring gardens, fountains and patios… Embark on the last part of your journey towards one of the most important archaeological sites in Spain, Medina Azahara, a palatial city built in the 10th century using the most extravagant materials: marble, ebony, ivory and precious stones... The remains of squares, paintings and columns have been preserved as testimony to the splendour of the past. The two recently restored salons permit us to imagine what life would have been like in these golden times. The visit to this site of great historic and artistic value, declared a National Monument, is where the route comes to an end. Has it left you yearning for more? Don’t worry, it’s best to leave some things out so there will always be a reason to return.
